    About M4A

M4A is AAC audio in an MP4 file. iPhone Voice Memos, many phone recorders and music bought without copy protection use it. Some cars, older players, websites and editors accept only MP3, which is the main reason to convert.

Protected files (old iTunes purchases ending in .m4p) can’t be converted.

    Quality and size

WAV is saved as 16-bit PCM at 48 kHz, in mono or stereo like the original. The result is about 11.5 MB a minute in stereo.

    Private by design

Converters that upload your file keep a copy on someone else’s server, at least for a while. Here the conversion happens on your device, with your browser’s own audio decoders and an MP3 encoder that runs in the page. Nothing is uploaded, and it works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chromebooks.

    Questions and answers

Is this M4A to WAV converter free and safe?

Yes. It’s free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Your M4A files are converted by your browser on your device and never uploaded, so nobody else sees them.

Can I convert iPhone Voice Memos?

Yes. Share the memo from the Voice Memos app to Files or to your computer, then choose the .m4a file here.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Choose or drop as many as you like. They convert one after another, and each gets its own Download button.

How large can a file be?

The whole file is read into your browser’s memory, so very large files depend on your device. Audio up to about an hour, and videos up to a few hundred megabytes, work well on most computers.
