This policy covers the website voicerecorder.page and its tools: the online voice recorder, the computer audio recorder, the mic test, the speaker and headphone tests, the audio trimmer and converters, the decibel meters, and the feedback pages. The Voice Recorder extension for Chrome has its own policy.
Your recordings and files never leave your device
The tools run in your browser. Sound from your microphone, or from a tab or screen you choose to share, is measured and turned into an MP3 or WAV file on your device. Files you open in the trimmer or a converter are read and converted by your browser. Nothing you record, test or open is sent to us or to anyone else.
- Recordings you make are kept in this browser’s storage on your device (under Your recordings) until you delete them or clear the site’s data. They are never sent anywhere.
- The mic test measures the sound and shows it. Its 5-second playback clip stays in the page and is deleted when you leave.
- When you share a tab or screen for its sound, the page stops the picture at once and keeps only the audio.
Your browser asks before any page uses your microphone or a screen share, and you can withdraw that permission in the browser’s site settings at any time.
What the website stores in your browser
Besides your recordings, the tools remember your choices (the recorder’s format, quality, noise reduction and microphone, and the decibel meter’s calibration and limit) in your browser’s local storage, so they are set the next time you visit. They never leave your browser. You can clear them by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
What our hosting provider sees
The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives the technical details of each request (such as your IP address, browser and the page requested) to deliver the page and protect the site from attacks, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We don’t use cookies, ads or tracking scripts.
Links to the Chrome Web Store
Buttons that lead to the extension’s page in the Chrome Web Store add tags to the link (utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign) that tell us which page of this site the visit came from. The Chrome Web Store is run by Google under Google’s privacy policy.
Feedback, and the page shown after removing the extension
Two pages of this site take feedback on the extension: Send feedback, and the page Chrome opens after you remove Voice Recorder. Depending on its version, the extension opens these pages or our feedback form directly. The pages send what is listed below to that form, which runs on Google Forms under Google’s privacy policy:
- Your answer: the reason you pick, and the text you type when you press Send.
- Technical details that the extension puts in the page’s link: where it opened the page from (removal, its About section or a rating); its version; your browser and system with their versions; who installed it and roughly how long ago; rough counts of saved recordings and which recording modes were used; how far its welcome page got; the microphone’s permission and its last failure; the last recording problem; whether its icon is pinned; its recording settings; Chrome’s language; and a range of the storage used. The details sit in the part of the link after #, which browsers don’t send to any server. The page filters them and sends only these: the time zone and other languages the extension may add are left out.
- The page itself: its address, and whether the answer went with Send or on leaving.
The page lists the technical details and its address, as they will be sent, under “Technical details sent with your answer”.
Each visit sends this once: when you press Send, or when you leave or close the page after picking a reason. The page shown after removing the extension also sends the technical details once when you leave or close it, even if you don’t answer, so we can see when and why people leave. Text you type is sent only when you press Send, so please don’t type personal information you don’t want us to have. No name, email address, identifier, cookie or recording is sent. As with any form, Google receives your IP address with the submission.
The Voice Recorder extension
The extension records in Chrome’s side panel and keeps your recordings in your browser on your computer. It has no account and no servers of ours, and it uploads nothing. The only data that can reach us is feedback: what you send through our feedback form, and what the feedback pages above send. Its full privacy policy, kept up to date with each version, is here: Voice Recorder extension privacy policy.
Children
The website’s tools collect no personal information from anyone, children included. The feedback pages send only what is described above.
Changes and contact
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. Questions or requests: support@voicerecorder.page. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply, and keep them no longer than we need to.
